We often get asked about how we afford our closet on a budget, and one of the biggest ways is sample sales! For those of you who are unfamiliar, a sample sale is a sale that a brand holds in order to get rid of excess clothing and/or accessories from previous seasons as well as literal samples of clothing that they give to manufacturers to be produced.
Today we’ll review Urban Outfitters sample sale at Space 15 Twenty. UO’s sample sale was advertised to be from 10 am to 2 pm. Unlike other sales we had been to, UO had you pay $50 (approx $54 with tax) for a bag and allowed you to fill the bag with as much items as you could carry within it.
We had a feeling that this sale would be popular so we arrived at 4:50 am, beach chairs in hand, and secured our place in line as part of the first 25 people to enter the sale. Around 9:00 am we were led inside Space 15 Twenty and purchased our shopping bags. The approximate measurements are shown below.
Around 10:00 am we were led to the parking lot where the sale would take place and given rules:
1) No running
2) No fighting, and be kind to others (this was not a problem for us at this sale—shoppers and staff were so kind!)
3) Puffy jackets and large bags could be held and would not have to be stuffed into your bag
4) You could be creative in how things were “in” your bag (ie: tie shoes to the handles of your bag, etc.) and your bag could most definitely overflow and be piled high!
5) There was no time limit
UO had us walk in a single file line into the parking lot in batches of people. They slowly let groups of people in and security heavily controlled the number of people allowed in at one time. We spent approximately 1 hr and 30 minutes piling our bags high in the hot sun. In the end, the sale ended 1 hour before advertised end time due to them running out of items.
Below are pictures of some of our haul:
UO’s sample sale was hands down the best sale we’ve ever been to. In total, together we spent $108, and bought 90 items. The sale was essentially a giveaway with us collectively paying $2 per item! We highly recommend this sample sale and look forward to UO’s next!
